Finally, Abu Dhabi’s unique Yas Island hotel that literally straddles the Emirate’s F1 track has a name that might stick.
The 499-roomer opened in 2009, since when it has been called variously the Yas Hotel, The Marina Hotel and Viceroy.
The W Hotels affiliation is actually really appropriate for this eight-floor structure, which architects Asymtote, out of New York, covered with a gridshell from Shlaich Bergermann und Partner (SBP) and Waagner-Biro (with a little help, apparently, from Gehry Technologies and Front Inc).
There are many favoured bedrooms but try the 409 sq m Presidential Suite, #30, which has its own 15-metre pool. Televisions, naturally, are B&O.
