The marvellously-named Big Bed is a hotel brand launching in China, for the world. Think a next-generation version of CitizenM, which combines fun with technology. Big Bed hotels, designed by Paul Bishop, will have compact bedrooms (with fabulous big beds) and attractive social spaces. The first Big Bed by JA, with 240 rooms, will open in Shenyang, near BMW headquarters (it replaces a pair of Ibis hotels).
Big Bed is being overseen in China by Enwei Lien, just-appointed MD China for JA Resorts & Hotels, based in Dubai, UAE. Lien worked for years at Swire Hotels’ Opposite House in Shanghai, and then he moved to freestanding restaurants, including running Starbuck’s biggest roastery in China.
JA Hotels & Resorts, owned by DUTCO, is headed by CEO Anthony Ross. Its partner in China is Novel International Group, a Shanghai investment fund. The pair plan to expand Big Bed far and wide – they are also working on a 250-key JA Resort in Changzhou.
